Byars Earns League-Leading Fourth A-10 Performer of the Week Nod

ST. LOUIS - For the fourth time this season, Saint Louis swimmer Brad Byars (Marion, Ill. / Marion) has been chosen as the Atlantic 10 Conference Men's Swimming Co-Performer of the Week for the period ending Jan. 27. He has earned more weekly honors than any other league swimmer this season. Byars earned two individual wins at last weekend's Lindenwood Quad, in addition to helping the 200 medley relay to a first-place finish. In his first individual victory, the senior turned in the team's top 50-free time (21.16) of the 2007-08 campaign. That effort ties for fourth on SLU's all-time list and is the second-fastest time in the A-10 this season. He went on to post the Billikens' top 100 fly performance (51.02) of the season last Saturday. That personal-best effort ranks second in SLU annals and is also the fourth-best effort in the A-10 this season. He then swam a leg on SLU's first-place 200 medley relay (1:36.22) that recorded the third-fastest time in school history. To date, Byars owns numerous performances that rank among Saint Louis' all-time top 10, including three in the 100 fly, seven in the 50 free, eight in the 100 free and six in the 200 free. Earlier this season at Southern Illinois, he broke the school record in the 100 free with a time of 45.27. He has also been a member of four school record-setting relays throughout his career. SLU wraps up the regular season when it travels to Charleston, Ill., to take on Eastern Illinois at noon on Saturday, Feb. 2. The A-10 Championships will take place Feb. 20-23 at the Flickinger Athletic Center in Buffalo, N.Y.
