PEORIA, Ill. - Mary Moloney and Steve Vargas were Saint Louis' front-runners at Friday's Bradley Cross Country Classic at Newman Golf Course in Peoria, Ill. Moloney crossed the 6K finish line in 21:52 for a 16th-place finish, while Vargas posted a 25:22 mark to finish 17th overall. "Our performance this afternoon shows how much we have improved as a team in the past year," Billiken coach Jon Bell said. "We knew this event was going to be a measuring stick for us to use as we compare ourselves with some of the top teams in the region. We proved we are able to complete against them. I am looking forward to seeing the team compete at the A-10 Championship in two weeks." Laura Coyer turned in a 36th-place time of 22:22 in helping the women finish ninth in the 17-team field. Lauren Verzal and Brigette Schutzman were the next Billikens finishers, posting times of 22:53 and 22:54, respectively. On the men's side, Brian Holdmeyer was SLU's second finisher, crossing in a 46th-place time of 25:59. Mat Stuber followed at 26:03, and Neal Rodrigues posted an 8K time of 26:26. "One of our goals coming in was to see our fourth and fifth guys inch closer to the top three, and they did just that," Bell said. "We did exactly what we wanted to from a tactical standpoint tonight."
The Billikens have two weeks to prepare for the A-10 Championship in Philadelphia, which is set for Oct. 27. |
