Former Edwardsville High School and Wichita State standout Danny Jackson came to the Billikens in August 2007 as a volunteer assistant coach.

Jackson got his first taste of coaching in the summer of 2007 as an assistant for the El Dorado (Kan.) Broncos. Serving as the first base coach and hitting instructor, he helped the Broncos to a sixth-place finish in the NBC National Baseball Tournament. Jackson played for the Broncos in 2006.

A three-position player at Wichita State, Jackson earned honorable mention All-Missouri Valley Conference honors as a designated hitter in 2007, hitting .283 with 24 RBI to help the Shockers to their first regional championship in 10 years. He enjoyed his best season as a DH and a relief pitcher as a sophomore in 2005. Jackson hit .299 with 27 RBI while posting a .309 ERA and a 2-2 record in 17 appearances on the mound. He was named MVC Tournament MVP after hitting .533 at the event.

Prior to Wichita State, Jackson was a three-time All-State, All-Metro and All-Conference selection at Edwardsville High. He was twice named Prep Player of the Year by the Alton Telegraph and was a Chicago Tribune second-team All-State selection as a senior in 2002. Over four years at Edwardsville, Jackson posted a career .401 average, a 2.88 ERA, an 11-5 record and nine saves.

Jackson graduated from Wichita State in 2007 with a bachelor of arts in liberal arts and sciences with a focus on psychology and a minor in criminal justice.
