Keegan Smith Signs With Billikens
April 24, 2008
ST. LOUIS - Saint Louis men's soccer coach Dan Donigan announced today that Keegan Smith (Dallas, Texas/Solar SC/J.J. Pearce H.S.) has signed a National Letter of Intent to attend the University and play soccer for the Billikens. The defender begins his four years of eligibility in the fall. Smith began his stint at the prestigious Solar SC in Dallas in 2003. In 2007, he was a key member of the defense on teams that captured the Score at the Shore (Greensboro, N.C.) championships in addition to reaching the regional quarterfinals. Smith was a varsity starter all four years at J.J. Pearce, and he captained this year's team that went 15-5-4. "Keegan is a talented, technical and intelligent player for our backline," Donigan said. "Being the son of Kevin Smith, a former professional player, Keegan has a tremendous amount of knowledge and experience that should allow him to make a quick transition to the college game." Smith spent four seasons in the Olympic Development Program that has taken him on various international tours, including championship appearances in Holland and Belgium in 2005. Also, he attended the adidas Elite Soccer Program in 2007. Keegan's father, Kevin, played professionally for 19 seasons, 13 of which were with the Dallas Sidekicks of the Major Indoor Soccer League (MISL). His #10 jersey was retired by the team in 2000. "Keegan is 6-foot-4 and still getting stronger, which should provide a physical presence in our backfield along with the ability to help on both ends of the field in the air," Donigan said. "Like all incoming freshmen, Keegan will be expected to?prepare for the speed of play and the physicality of the college game. We are excited about Keegan and his potential as a student-athlete at Saint Louis University."
