Angus Named to NSCAA All-America Team
Dec. 17, 2007
ST. LOUIS - Saint Louis junior defender Calum Angus (Hampshire, England) earned second-team All-America honors from the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA). The 2007 Atlantic 10 Conference Defensive Player of the Year earns his first NSCAA All-America nod after contributing to a Billiken defense that ranked among the best in the country. "Calum was a vital part of our team this season," Billiken head coach Dan Donigan said. "He has grown as both a student and player, and I am extremely proud of him. We feel very good about where we are as a program, and we are looking forward to next fall.We have committed ourselves to working hard in preparation for next season, and Calum will be at the forefront both on and off the field to ensure that we will compete for a national championship." Angus, who also earned first-team All-Region plaudits from the NSCAA, was a mainstay in the central backfield. He was a key reason why the Billikens boasted the league's top defensive unit, yielding just 13 goals and registering nine shutouts in 19 matches. The Billikens' 0.64 goals against average ranked 12th in the nation. Angus also contributed on the offensive side of the ball. He tallied the Billikens' game-winning goal against Central Florida, then buried a penalty-kick attempt in SLU's 8-0 rout over Saint Joseph's. This honor adds to a long list of accolades for Angus, who earlier this postseason was named a third-team All-American by College Soccer News in addition to earning a spot on TopDrawerSoccer.com's National Team of the Year. The Billikens finished 2007 with a 12-2-5 record and were ranked in the top 25 by the NSCAA all season, drawing a ranking of No. 12 in the final NSCAA coaches' poll.
