Jarietta Benton begins her first season as director of women's basketball operations after serving as the team's senior manager in 2006-07. She came to Saint Louis after a four-year playing career at DePaul University.
Benton will oversee the team's community service projects and act as video coordinator. She also will assist with travel arrangements and oversees the student managers.
As a player with the Blue Demons, Benton qualified for the NCAA Tournament all four years.
Benton helped DePaul post a 27-7 record and reach the Sweet 16 of the 2006 NCAA Tournament when they finally fell to No. 1 seed LSU. She was awarded the "Maggie Dixon Captain's Award" as a senior.
As a junior, Benton averaged 3.8 ppg and more than doubled her assist total from her sophomore season. She also played 11 minutes in DePaul's second round tournament game.
Benton scored 261 points and distributed 72 assists during her DePaul career. She posted a career high game of 12 points against Murray State.
A native of Houston, Benton finished her prep career at Nimitz High School with 1,447 points, 887 rebounds, 327 steals and 205 blocks. She led the Houston area during her senior season with 19 points and 9.7 rebounds while shooting .440 from 3-point range. She was an honorable mention All-State selection by the Texas Sports Writers Association and was twice tabbed second-team All-State by Texas Basketball Magazine.
Benton graduated from DePaul in 2006.
