Billikens End Season With Four Wins

AT SEASON'S END: The Saint Louis field hockey team ended the 2007 season with a 4-15 record overall, 2-5 in the Atlantic 10. The Billikens just missed out on a bid to the A-10 Tournament, finishing sixth in the league standings.

RECAPPING LAST WEEK: The Billikens ended their season with a 3-0 loss at defending A-10 champion Richmond. Amy Wasserman made 10 saves in the game to break the single-season saves record. She finished the year with 192 saves to top the previous record of 189 set by Julie Smith in 1993.

COACHING STAFF: Head coach Marcie Boyer ended her second season at SLU with an 11-24 career mark. Her first win as a head coach came against Missouri State on Aug. 27, 2006. An assistant coach at SLU in 2004, Boyer spent the 2005 season as an assistant at A-10 rival West Chester, before returning to the Billikens as the head coach in 2006. She is a 2003 graduate of New Hampshire. Boyer was assisted by fellow UNH grad Lauren Bruce.

GOAL RUSH: The Billikens notched three goals for the first time this season in the game against Rhode Island. The contest marked the first three-goal output since a 3-1 win against West Chester on Oct. 8, 2006.

TRIFECTA: Jacklyn McGranahan became the first Billiken to score a goal in three straight games since 2004. Karin Boone scored in three consecutive games against Lindenwood and back-to-back against Appalachian State on Oct. 11, Oct. 16 and Oct. 17, 2004.

TWICE AS NICE: Molly Boyne became the first Billiken to tally twice in the same game this season when she found the net on two occasions against Kent State. Mary Henry was the last SLU player with a multi-goal game when she scored two goals against La Salle on Oct. 6, 2006.
 

 

RANK AND FILE: The Billikens faced a rugged schedule this season having played five nationally ranked teams. The Billikens battled No. 7 Michigan State, No. 11 Ohio, No. 13 Ohio State, No. 15 Indiana and No. 16 Louisville.

ACADEMIC EXCELLENCE: The NFHCA selected the Billikens as a National Academic Squad in 2006-07. To earn the honor, a team must compile a team cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher. Earning individual honors for a GPA of at least 3.30 were Cathi Brownell, Jessica Dalton, Catherine Donovan, Mary Henry, Meghan Hill, Angela Lombardo, Jacklyn McGranahan and Michelle Sinclair.

CRYSTAL CLAIRE: Freshman midfielder Claire Becker (Frontenac, Mo. / Nerinx Hall) played in three games in 2007.

BOYNE IDENTITY: Sophomore forward Molly Boyne (Escondido, Calif. / San Pasqual) led the team with four goals and had one assist ... finished with a team-high nine points.

CB RADIO: Junior back Cathi Brownell (Oconomowoc, Wis. / University Lake) started at Richmond ... played in 16 games this season.

THE DEEM TEAM: Freshman keeper Katherine Deem (Fairview Park, Ohio / Magnificat) played in three games during the season ... made two saves.

CAT QUICK: Senior forward Catherine Donovan (St. Louis, Mo. / Cor Jesu) tied for second on the team with three goals this season.

BURGER KING: Freshman midfielder Stephanie Ertzberger (Wexford, Pa. / North Allegheny) appeared in 14 games on the year ... registered three shots.

MUSTANG SALLY: Freshman back Sally Finney (St. Louis, Mo. / Nerinx Hall) made three appearances this season ... was credited with three shots on goal.

FRAMPED-UP: Junior back Christine Frampus (Chevy Chase, Md. / Bethesda Chevy Chase) led the team with six assists and was second with eight points.

DON'T MEZ WITH TEXAS: Freshman midfielder Natalie Gamez (Fort Worth, Texas / Trinity Valley) played in 17 games this season with two starts ... had five shots on goal.

O HENRY: Junior forward Mary Henry (Louisville, Ky. / Kentucky Country Day) played in all 19 games and made 10 starts ... scored one goal during the season.

ASHES TO ASHES: Senior midfielder Ashlea Hibshman (Lititz, Pa. / Warwick) started all 19 games this season ... picked up two assists on the year.

KING OF THE HILL: Junior back Meghan Hill (St. Louis, Mo. / Visitation) made 17 starts and played in all 19 games ... was one of the top defenders and had one defensive save.

GOOD LUCK CHARM: Sophomore back Eva Luck (St. Louis, Mo. / Cor Jesu) started all 19 games on the year ... was credited with three defensive saves ... picked up one point.

GRAN SLAM: Junior midfielder Jacklyn McGranahan (Bay Village, Ohio / Magnificat) was tied for second on the team with three goals ... also had one assist to finish with seven points on the year ... had a team-high 36 shots on goal.

LAUNCHED INTO ORBIT: Freshman forward Meghan Orbe (Chesterfield, Mo. / Nerinx Hall) made eight appearances during the season.

KEL-LY GREEN: Freshman forward Kelsey Shultz (St. Louis, Mo. / Villa Duchesne) played in all 19 games and earned six starts ... scored three goals and had one assist for seven points this season.

SLY AS A FOX: Senior forward Natalie Slyman (St. Louis, Mo. / Nerinx Hall) finished with two goals and one assist for five points during the year.

FAST MOVING TRAYN: Freshman back Kelsey Traynor (Denver, Colo. / St. Mary's) played in two games this season.

WASS UP?: Senior keeper Amy Wasserman (St. Louis, Mo. / Ursuline) broke the single-season record with 192 saves this season ... had at least 10 saves in 11 games ... led the A-10 and in the latest NCAA report, ranks third nationally in saves per game.

SPIDER WEB: Freshman midfielder Alex Weber (Prospect, Ky. / Country Day) played in all 19 games this season and earned 16 starts ... had three assists on the season.
