Wasserman Named First-Team All-Conference

Nov. 1, 2007

Senior goalkeeper Amy Wasserman (St. Louis, Mo. / Ursuline Academy) was named first-team All-Atlantic 10 Conference to headline the Saint Louis field hockey team's all-league selections in voting conducted among the conference's head coaches.

Sophomore forward Molly Boyne (Escondido, Calif. / San Pasqual) earned honorable mention honors, while freshman forward Kelsey Shultz (St. Louis, Mo. / Villa Duchesne) and freshman midfielder Alex Weber (Prospect, Ky. / Country Day) were named to the All-Rookie Team. In addition, Wasserman and senior forward Catherine Donovan (St. Louis, Mo. / Cor Jesu) were selected to the Academic All-Conference team.

"It is wonderful that the league coaches saw the talent on our team, especially considering how young we were this season," head coach Marcie Boyer said. "This shows we have a bright future with Molly earning honorable mention honors as a sophomore and Kelsey and Alex named to the All-Rookie team. Amy had some great A-10 games, and it is nice that the coaches saw and recognized what an outstanding goalkeeper she is for us. Plus, Amy and Cat have worked so hard on the field and in the classroom, and it is nice that they were selected for the All-Academic team."

Wasserman finished the year with 192 saves to break the previous school record of 189 set by Julie Smith in 1993. She led the A-10 and in the latest NCAA report, ranks third nationally in saves per game. Wasserman faced 345 shots this season and reached double figures in saves on 11 occasions. Boyne led the team with four goals, had one assist and finished with a team-high nine points.

Shultz played in all 19 games and earned six starts in her first year as a Billiken. She scored three goals and had one assist for seven points. Weber also played in all 19 games this season and earned 16 starts. She finished with three points on three assists.

Donovan tied for second on the team with three goals and is a business administration major. Wasserman is a communication sciences and disorders major.
