Heet Selected A-10 Player of the Week
March 24, 2008
ST. LOUIS - After helping her team sweep George Washington in the Atlantic 10 Conference opening series, Saint Louis' Rachel Heet (St. Louis, Mo. / Mehlville) has been selected as the league's Player of the Week for the period ending March 23. She is just the third Billiken softball player to earn that distinction since SLU (11-15, 2-0 A-10) joined the A-10 prior to the 2006 campaign. Heet batted .556 in the GW series with two singles, two doubles, a home run, seven RBIs and a 1.111 slugging percentage. In the first game against the Colonials, the junior shortstop went 3-for-4 with a three-run walk-off double in bottom of the seventh. Earlier in the game, she added a stolen base and a double. In the nightcap, Heet had an RBI single in the first inning and provided some late-inning heroics. With two outs in the bottom of the 10th and SLU down 5-2, she delivered her first home run of the season, which knotted the score at 5-5 and forced an 11th inning. Heet finished the game with a school-record tying four RBIs. For the week, she posted a .346 average with team highs of nine hits, 10 RBIs and four extra-base hits. Heet, who was named to the A-10 All-Championship team last season, leads the 2008 Billikens with a .342 average, 26 hits and 14 RBIs. This is the first weekly A-10 honor of her career. Heet and the Bills return to action on Wednesday, March 26, in a 3 p.m. non-conference doubleheader against Indiana State at The Billiken Sports Center.
