Kelly Earns Second A-10 Accolade

May 5, 2008

ST. LOUIS - Saint Louis pitcher Erin Kelly (River Forest, Ill. / Fenwick) picked up her second Atlantic 10 Conference co-Rookie of the Week honor of the season on Monday after posting a win and a save last week.

In three appearances against Western Illinois and Dayton, the freshman turned in a 0.78 ERA. Kelly tossed two innings of one-hit ball with one strikeout en route to the save in the second WIU tilt.

Last weekend, Kelly (10-5) helped the Billikens secure their second straight A-10 Championship berth with a sweep of Dayton. The rookie worked the final inning of the opener, allowing one unearned run on two hits while fanning one. Then Kelly recorded the game-two victory over the Flyers after holding them to just one run on eight hits and three strikeouts in six innings.

Kelly made history on Feb. 25 when she received the both league's Pitcher and Rookie of the Week honors. It marked the first time that a SLU softball player had earned more than one A-10 accolade in a week.

The sixth-seeded Billikens (23-31-1, 11-9 A-10) open A-10 Championship action with a 3 p.m. (CT) contest against third-seeded Charlotte on Wednesday, May 7, in Charlotte, N.C.
