Combining academic achievement with athletic success is the primary
focus of the Saint Louis University athletic department and its coaches.
Under the supervision of Mary Clark, director of academic services,
the athletic department offers SLU student-athletes some of the best
academic support services in college athletics.
The Billikens' academic support services staff offers academic, career
and personal counseling, guidance in monitoring the registration and
class schedules of student-athletes, supervised and open study tables,
access to an Internet-compatible computer lab and a comprehensive
tutorial program.
Academic services has a staff of trained tutors who post superior
academic records. The goal of tutoring is to provide assistance that
encourages students to become independent learners. Students requesting a tutor meet first with the academic coordinator to discuss specific
needs, expectations and goals. Saint Louis' athletic tutors come from a
pool of undergraduate and graduate students within the University.
Through the support of the faculty and administration and the dedication
of the student-athletes, the department has claimed the Conference USA
Institutional Excellence Award every year since the inception of the league in 1995-96.
